Flower Power

'Flower Power ' is such an old catch phrase but back in the late 60's it was all the rage and then some. It even carried into the 70's. You can check it out at this link if you feel the need. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower_power

But Today's Flowers holds the real meaning of 'Flower Power' for me.  What a wonderful site for sharing your flowers with the world.  Their actual address is http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.com/

This week I'm sharing pictures of my Hardy Hibiscus', all three of my plants are just loaded with buds so I'm praying it won't freeze before they all have a chance to open.  I planted them late last summer and cut them back to 6" for the winter then covered it with maple leaves for mulch.  One of the plants is about 10 feet tall and easily 6 feet wide.  Yes I'm very pleased seeing how we live in Upper Michigan and I felt I was taking a chance growing them here.

yes, our environment in the U.P. can be harsh...it always amazes me what comes to life in the spring summer and fall up here after being in the frozen tundra all winter...that is a gorgeous flower.

I love Hibiscus. We grew them for a few years but was always sad when they died out with the first frost.
What variety do you have that can survive the winters?

You photo is lovely and I hope all you buds get to bloom. It's a honey of a plant to have grown so well.

Wishing you a pleasant rest of the weekend!

Wow, I have not paid that much attention to the Hybiscus, but that looks like an inordinant amount of buds. I hope they all make it. good entry

We took the twins to my brothers once and he had some giant plants also. He was the grower. The kids learned the name, Hi-biscuits.

WOW! You weren't kidding when you said they were doing so well. I have to remember to look for some of those "hardy" hibiscus next spring when I'm out shopping for plants. Or... better yet... I'll let you remind me. I can't remember anything anymore.

Humongous! Good thing you put the hand in there to give it some comparison. Beautiful and I love the buds in the top photo.

WOW Cher, your hibiscus are amazingly huge and so gorgeous...thanks for sharing. I cannot believe they survived the winter, but then all of your snow cover surely is a blessing to them. And 10 ft. tall...amazing.

Beautiful colors! Hibiscus is commonly found here in my country, as it's hot all year long, the flowers bloom all the time. These are the national flower of the neighbouring country Malaysia.
