Why Does This Always Happen??

Why is it that when you start cleaning one area it spreads like wildfire into another area.  I was cleaning out my kitchen appliance cabinet the other day because I could see the stress on a shelf from too much weight.  So that meant shifting things around from one place to another. Problem solved --- not quite! It actually meant moving stuff from another area to make room for the height of some of the appliances. So... another cupboard needed to be tangled with! Now I have a few odds and ends left so I went to tuck them in the 'hiding place.'  The bottom of one of the hutches should work - wrong again.  Time to clean those out too!  But first because I was rearranging due to too much weight on the shelf it got me to thinking of all the wieght on those shelves in the dining room hutch. Soooo.... that meant cleaning that out! Now where to put all that heavy china. Well I had these two beautiful boxes set on top of the hutches and they were empty. Time to reorganize and store them in those. They are still very handy sitting on a beautiful bench that we made this past summer out of an old bed headboard. It sets in the dining room.
Now back to the 'hiding place' for those odds and ends, but first I have to clean my two 'hiding places' out to make room for them. It just never ends.  Now where did all of this stuff come from?
Well guess what - some of this 'stuff' is now moving down to the basement storage ... oh no ... I don't like where this is going!!  I can't wait until spring ... can you say GARAGE SALE!!!

Love those boxes. Too funny on the domino effect. I don't think I've ever had that happen with cleaning. I can usually stop myself pretty easily...

Yeah, that even happens in a Motor Home. There is just so much space, and too much stuff. I understand your delimma. Funny thing you will find a place to put everything 'before' the yard sale. hahahaha! enjoyable post!! Good read and narrative.
Love from Florida,

PS: Your problem is it is too cold to get out and go water skiing!

That Jack is funny with his commentaries about the cold! Just 'cuz he's living in a motor home and can constantly go roaming to warmer weather! Gotta love him!!
I too, am in that same problem you have of shuffling stuff from one spot to another. I think you need to take your mind off of all this cleaning and come take a vacation with me! Let's go soak in some of that warmer weather that Jack keeps bragging on.

Cool boxes!

I think no matter where we live, how big or small the residence, most of us have a tendency to fill every nook and cranny. When I lived in KC, we had nearly 3000 sq. ft. and as kids moved out, we "grew into" their space! I had a huge, big, awful job when I moved here, into just under 1300 sq. ft.! I wanted to downsize, but it wasn't easy. And now, every couple years, I have to do what you are, because I've managed to "grow into," all over again!!

It is just a vicious cycle. I was looking at a cupboard the other day and just in my mind it went about like yours. Wore me out so bad that I didn't have the energy to actually do the work.

We have all been there Cher. It is crazy how much a home can accumulate from stopping at just one tag sale., you get home and wonder, what the heck was I thinking...did I really need that? and now, where's it going to go. I just carried in the oak file cabinet I bought last weekend at the neighbors basement sale. At least I do know where that one is going....hey, how long has it been since you were to Colleen's,? 28 yrs? Time to take a hike with Mel and Slim. You will have a ball.

Oh, by the way, the hat boxes worked great for the dishes, oh, clever one. I still love the headboard bench. You should go into business, lil one.

Cher, someone recently talked about a "Winter Sale" (I think that's what they called it) Sounds like that's what to do when things get as urgent as they seem for you. I've thought (and re-thought) about that for myself. But like Jack says - before I can get that sale ready I'll have found a place to hide most of my "stuff". ☺

Everything you said rings true to me too! I started giving lots of things to garage sales and the Sr center in Newberry. I figure if I haven't used them in "that long of a time" I don't really need them. GOOD LUCK!

Funny how we seem to have to have stuff and then it ends up on a garage sale....happens here ALL the time!

Oh yes, it is a law!!! Mine started this summer when my son married and I was able to send all his belongings off to Fort Hood, since he finally lived off post. Eventually it distributes itself through every single room in the house! It's the law. **kisses** Deb

Nope, not a garage sale. By that time it's a crisis and I want it GONE. Off to the thrift store it goes !!
