Apple Butter

 "In an orchard
there should be
enough to eat,
enough to lay up,
enough to be stolen,
and enough to rot
upon the ground."
Samuel Madden

We picked enough to 'lay up'
some apple butter & some dried apples
 they required very little sugar
added along with
cinnamon and nutmeg
cooking in the crock pot all day
until it becomes a delicious
apple butter
 the dehydrator worked its magic
and with time
these apples became tasty treats

It all looks so good! I finally got apples off my tree in the backkyard. Kinda buggy though, so not sure if I could get enough to do anything with. I do have to spray it in the spring for next year.

Oh, how I wish I had nice apples like that. I have an old crabapple tree in the front yard and that's it. The apples are wormy and not really edible.

I would really love to be able to make some of that apple butter and a big juicy apple pie!

Looks wonderful! It reminds me of when we took Pat's mom apple picking one fall (about 30 yrs ago) and when she returned to P.F. she left us with about 10 frozen apple pies. We enjoyed those ALL winter. Nothing like the smell of cooking apples to put you in a fall mood. Again - I'll bring the ice cream!

It all looks so good, also I like the quote.

My mama always dried apples. I have never done that. she used an old piece to tin roofing. I never understood the process.
But loved her 'fried pies'

Love from here.

All those photos show a great way to use up all those apples. I would love to have my own orchard. I've never tried the apple butter before but I bet the bought stuff isn't half as good as the kind you make.

Everything looks good! We have an apple tree, but the apples don't taste good fresh, get rubbery when frozen and don't dry well. No idea what kind of tree it is. The horse like them. I end up buying apples :)

WoW, Cher! Looking good. My apples got bit by a freeze right after they bloomed and did not produce a single fruit this year. I'm sure you will enjoy the fruit this winter. I can smell 'em cooking all the way to Tennessee.
