Flying Squirrel

Oh my, what big eyes you have!
all the better for my night vision
as I glide from tree to tree
Okay, Okay
so you caught me in the
bird house!
 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Sorry little guy or girl
but we will release you into the wild
as we know you live on mostly
bark and insects
but
you also love small birds
(and not in a good way)
they are NOT for
lunch!

Fabulous! My mom has a herd of squirrels living in two white oaks just outside her front door. Out last Lab seemed to think they were just little dogs and we were always expecting to see him try to follow them up the trees. I can't wait to see how Buddy reacts to them.

I was never so surprised the day I opened the corn barrel at the cabin, to find 3 Flying Squirrels inside waiting to get out...they are blind during the day, and just sheepishly crawled off like staggering drunks when I let them go. Of course, they may just have been very thirsty. Their fur feels like silk...very cool. I love watching them glide in for a landing on the feeders at night, the lil nocturnals.
Nice entry CherlyGirl!

Very interesting! I knew they eat some birds and rob nests because of the info we received at Piedmont NWR. They have problems with them there eating and robbing the rare woodpeckers nest (and NOW I can't think of that woodpeckers name!)

Hello again, Cher. Love this image although agree it would probably eat bird's eggs and chicks. Don't like the thought of that image. Never seen this animal before. Will need to look it up now :-D
