Crazy!!

Oh this crazy language of ours!  This morning as my husband asked me how to spell the word wound, as in the result of an action; I answered W O U N D.  So he quickly typed the word down and looked for the synonym and it came up wound ... as in being hurt, injury, lesion.  But I was pretty sure I was right so I searched about winding a watch to find the word wound.  This is what I found: "The fully-wound mainspring in a typical watch can store enough energy reserve for ... walking was necessary to wind the watch sufficiently for eight days ... "
When the synonym had no mention of over winding a watch I got to second guessing myself and wondering if I had the correct spelling so I said maybe it's  w-o-n-d ... WOND (1400 AM) is a news/talk radio station in Pleasantville, New Jersey.  I was wrong again!  So I said try wand. Well that came up as a magical stick, and I knew it would.  Here I was right the first time but went into the guessing game because of this crazy lanuage of ours.  When you think of it "to wind a watch" is spelled the same as wind - the bulk movement of air, air in action.  So after all this time (or is that thyme) searching and laughing about our language he wrote down the words "ended up" instead.  And that my dear friends is how it all wound up!

I remember when my son was young and going through all the struggles of writing the english language. He still gets confused at times. Me too! It really is confusing!

I truly feel sorry for folks who try to learn our language after learning their own. We have a hard enough time using it as our FIRST language...

You probably wound up guessing! hahahahaha
For sure English is confusing. I notice in French and Spanish both of which I have studied and neither of which I cna speak or write. I think they have less words and go right ot the point.

But you are correct or right!
Love you, but I don't like you mr Winter!

Hahahahahaha....Me thinks or is it I, we are correcting poor Ben all the time, then Eric comes over and says, me thinks you's right Ben, me too he says and it goes on and on. Just when we have him corrected again, here comes Uncle Eric saying me wants some juice too. Me too, says Ben. Mercy...by then, I'm totally confused. and Me too. Me's not so young you thinks I is~~~~thus adding to the confusion.

And if you mix English with French you would have my sentiments --- which is, "Have mercy, merci!" One thing God sure did right at Babel - He confused their language - or is that languages. Ha. Funny one. ☺

Good one! So do you "wind" your watch while the wind blows??
